The Move towards a Friendlier FAFSA

Federal authorities estimate that 1.5 million students eligible for Pell grants did not apply because they wanted to avoid the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

That’s why they are quickly moving to simplify the notoriously complicated form, which currently asks financial aid-seeking students as many as 153 questions. Sources say about 20 percent of the questions will be cut from next year’s form, mainly by eliminating redundancies.
